Course structureBy the end of the Woodcarving for Beginners Short Course, students will have the craft skills to pursue sculptural studies and the ability to carve wood. They will also have good knowledge of woodwork tools, workshop practice and tool identification.
The techniques taught on the course include:
- identifying carving gouges and tools and there appropriate application
- identifying timber as a sculptural resource and understanding wood
- designing and planning woodcarving projects
- sharpening gouges
- carving techniques in relief
- sculptural carving techniques
- finishing techniques
