This course is relevant to people who wish to work in a number of settings such as homelessness, housing, support, meaningful occupation, resettlement and outreach. It is also relevant for those wishing to progress their career in healthcare and adult care settings. You will attend college one day a week to develop your knowledge and skills and will will also undertake a work placement for two or more days a week.

About this course
All course materials and a folder for your work will be provided. You should bring a pen and paper to make notes on. You will also need to pay for a DBS (Criminal Record check).
The classroom sessions are tutor led and combine group work, discussion, case studies, self-directed study,
presentations, role-play, quizzes, DVD resources and research activities. You will be required to work on
assignments in your own time. Your assessor will support you with assessment of your classroom work and workplace experience and a work placement supervisor will support you with the development of your professional practice. You will also have tutorials.
Assessment for the award is continuous. Written evidence, observation of practical competence, questioning,
work products and witness testimony are compiled in an on-line portfolio.

Safeguarding and protection in care settings
Responsibilities of the care worker
Communication in care settings: barriers to communication and adapting your style to suit individual preferences.
Duty of care
Handle information in care settings: recording, sharing and storing information in accordance with the law.
Personal development in care settings: planning for future learning and setting goals.
Equality and inclusion in care settings: legislation and challenging discrimination.
Health, safety and well-being in care settings: understand your own responsibilities and workplace procedures.
Implement person-centred approaches in care settings: understand the values of this approach.
There are further supplementary units which you will select with the help of your assessor.
