Who is this course for? This course is suitable for you if you are currently employed working with children and/or young people and looking to gain a professional and practical qualification.

What do I need to get on the course? You need to be currently employed working with children and/or young people and have at least one of the following:

· A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in a relevant area, or equivalent, or 2 A-levels.

· A relevant Access course.
Applications are welcome from mature students who may not have the minimum entry requirements, but have appropriate skills and knowledge, and some work experience. You should have English and maths skills equivalent to GCSE level.
Applicants with other equivalent qualifications are encouraged to apply as are applicants with experience of working in the industry.
International applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis with equivalent qualifications being accepted.

What will I study? You develop a wide range of expertise in all areas relating to your work with young people. You learn how to build effective relationships with children and young people, in addition to gaining an understanding of other professions and organisations whose purpose is to support and guide.
Course modules include personal and professional development, theoretical aspects of young peoples development, engagement through effective relationship, approaches to learning in an educational environment, policy, context and legislation, principles and practices of transition management, young peoples development in practice, working with parents and carers, policies, practice and the practitioner, managing diversity in an educational setting, working with partners, work based research projects.

What qualification will I get? On successful completion you will gain a Foundation Degree in Working with Young People and Young Peoples Services, awarded by City University.

What can I do after the course? The foundation degree provides a number of potential progression routes including an honours degree and/or further professional and vocational qualifications in a range of areas such as careers guidance, youth and community work, education, youth justice and social work.
