GEOGRAPHY
Why should I come to Pendleton College?
At Pendleton we have committed staff and recently upgraded accommodation. Excellent access is given to Library and IT facilities to help with the different types of work in which you will be involved. Geography combines well with most other subject areas from Science to Humanities and Social Science.
What will I study?
Geography offers students the opportunity to study the world at local, national, and international level. Year one AS options:
- Earthquakes & volcanic hazards
- Rivers and floodplains
- Small ecosystems (Biogeography)
- Population geography
- Rural changes
- Urban geography
These will be studied using many case studies and field work if possible. Year two A-Level options:
- Climatic hazards, coastlines
- Economic Geography - the business of Geography
- Inequalities in development (rich world compared to the poor world)
- Sustainability and food, water, the natural world and the urban world
What will I achieve?
This A-Level allows progression to a number of degree courses and is a useful qualification for students seeking employment in a wide range of careers.
How is the course assessed?
Year one - AS Level: Three short exams Year two - A-Level: Two short exams plus a piece of coursework
What else will I do?
Opportunities for field work in both AS and A-Level years are available to students wanting to add a bit of extra interest to their course. In recent years students have visited Chester, The Lake District, Ainsdale, Dublin, Edinburgh and York.
