Reviews
Course programme
As the name of the course implies, Applied Science explores the way scientific knowledge is used in a variety of jobs and helps improve our quality of life.
AS students at the Bough Beech reservoir, Edenbridge
What will I study on this course?
The course is based on what scientists and engineers actually do in their jobs, rather than on separate academic subject areas. It:
concentrates on the knowledge, skills and techniques found in real-life situations
includes research, practical work and problem solving
builds up your scientific skills and your knowledge of key ideas in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
How is this course assessed?
Applied Science involves more coursework than other science subjects. One-third of your assessment is through examinations; the rest will be the portfolio you build up as the course progresses. You only sit one examination in the AS year and another in the A2 year.
What kind of student will do well on this course?
You should enjoy and be good at problem solving and working with numbers. You should have a genuine interest in scientific ideas. Due to the high proportion of coursework, you must be able to meet regular deadlines.
