BTEC NATIONAL CERTIFICATE for IT PRACTITIONERS
This is a one year flexible Unit-Based course leading to BTEC National Certificate in
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY and BUSINESS covering twelve units, four days a week, plus evening support and KEY SKILLS
COMMUNICATION & EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS
Employer-valued attributes, Effective ICT communications, email, blogs, podcasts, Personal development, learning and teamwork.
COMPUTER SYSTEMS
Hardware, Software, Operating systems, maintenance, upgrades, system specifications, utilities.
INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Information sources, charateristics and uses. Constraints, data protection. Databases, AI, MIS, feedback.
BUSINESS SYSTEMS
IT developments, business change and adaptation. Mobile communications, WiFi, networks, EDI. Expert systems. Legal and regulatory change. E-commerce. Sabotage, preventative technology, disaster recovery.
DATABASE SKILLS
Relational databases. Create, populate & test multiple databases. Normalisation, fields, styles, customisation, automation.
SPREADSHEET SKILLS
Complex problem solution, budgets and forecasts. Structure and fitness. Functions and formulae. Automation and customisation, sorting, charts, graphs.
SYSTEMS ANALYSIS
Principles of analysis and design, lifecycle, CASE, documentation, data flow, flowcharts, system creation, test plans.
MATHS FOR IT PRACTITIONERS
Algebraic equations, coordinate geometry, number and logic systems. Interpret data, sampling and statistics.
SOFTWARE DESIGN
Programming languages, features and data. Software development tools and structures, program creation, documentation, testing and debugging.
WEBSITE PRODUCTION
Design your own interactive website, test performance, W3C, uploading, HTML, Java, bitmaps, jpg, gif, wav, mp3, swf.
INSTALLING SOFTWARE
New products and upgrades, preparation, risks, configuration, completion and handover, registration.
DIGITAL GRAPHICS
Types of images, file formats, editing and manipulation tools. Create and modify images. Digital cameras, vectors and bitmaps. Graphics creation and techniques.
What progression opportunities are open to me?
You can progress onto a related Level 4 course such as the HNC/HND or Foundation Degree in Computing.
