Course Content

This course is vocational and, therefore, work-related. As a two year course, the National Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels and consists of 18 units studied. It is advised that the Diploma is not combined with A level study.

You will learn about the sports industry in-depth, developing practical skills and acquiring underpinning knowledge that will enable you to progress directly into work or further study.

The course consists of studying 8 core units of: The Body in Action, Health and Safety in Sport, Training and Fitness for Sport and Exercise, Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise, Sports Nutrition, Psychology for Sports Performance, Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport and The Athlete's Lifestyle, with additional units selected from areas such as: Sports and Exercise Massage, Sports Coaching, Sport as a Business and many more.

Due to the diverse nature of the course, a wide variety of teaching and learning styles will be utilised by the team, including group work, presentations and individual assignments. Many topics will involve practical work and you will be expected to fully participate.

You will have to opportunity to undertake additional courses of: CSLA, First Aid and Child Protection in Sport. There will also be an opportunity to complete leaders awards with related National Governing Bodies. These will provide excellent additional qualifications and unit criteria will be integrated within them.The course may also involvefield trips where some units will be studied.

This course would be suitable for students who have a keen interest in sport, who wish to enter employment in the sporting industry or wants to study sport further into Higher Education.
