There are no formal academic entry requirements for this course. The course is suitable for students aged 14-19 years old. You will also attend an interview and take an Initial Assessment.

Description
This course will allow you to gain a basic knowledge and understanding of the key areas in caring for children and a first step in your professional training. You will also develop basic skills in caring for children and knowledge which will support parenthood.

What will I study?
A variety of different topics will be covered including, human development, health & safety, practical caring skills, learning through play and skills for work. You will also learn functional skills which are English, Maths and ICT as required.
How will I learn?
There is an emphasis on the practical aspects of working with children. The Early Years team will encourage you to develop skills that enable you to be an independent motivated learner through appropriate support. Teaching methods will be varied and include taught sessions and group tasks. There may also be an opportunity to gain some work experience.
How will I be assessed?
Assignments, tutor report and a multiple choice paper.
Where could it lead?
On successful completion of the course with good grades you could progress to the CACHE Award/Certificate/Diploma in Childcare and Education at level 2.
