Who the Course is For:
The Certificate in Basic Plumbing Studies is a national designed course and is an introduction into plumbing as a career. The qualification is intended to enhance future employment within the plumbing industry and allows a student to gain the necessary skills required in all aspects of the plumbing as a craft. The course is college based and does not require the candidate to hold a position of employment.
Assessment:
Students undertake practical assessment tasks throughout this course and a 5-day block of attendance from 9am-5pm (between February-July) within their second year, and online City & Guilds examinations (multiple choice) during their learning programme.
Course Leads To:
It provides excellent training for progression into employment in plumbing, where the NVQ level 2 work based assessment programme can be started.
Entry Requirements:
The course is open to the mature, school leavers, to the disabled & to any student with some knowledge of English (even as a second language). Although there are no formal qualification, to achieve within the training time funded, applicants would expect to have achieved GCSE in English, Maths & Science (plus ideally Craft Design and Technology) at grades A to C. Applicants who have not achieved this will normally need to upgrade to this level before joining the course or sit an entrance test.
Content:
All our courses are designed to cover the full range of topics and tasks as laid down by the awarding body in response to industry requirements. All practical activities are carried out within out start of the art workshops with theory work being a mix of classroom and assignment activities. The topics include:
Working safely in plumbing
Key plumbing principles
Common plumbing processes
Cold water systems
Domestic hot water systems
Sanitation systems
Central heating systems
Electrical supply
Sheet lead weathering
Environmental awareness
Effective working relationships
Practical
