Course content:
STCW 11/2 Chief mates (Unlimited) is available as a part flexible course leading to internal college assessment and SQA examinations. The course is based upon part 2 of the Higher National Diploma in Nautical science. The programme is available on a modular basis with full support available throughout the year in the Marine Learning Centre (MLC) at South Tyneside College.
Entry requirements:
The entrance requirements are as follows:
- Students must hold a STCW 95 ii/l OOW (unlimited officer the watch),
- A minimum of 6 months sea time as a watch keeping Officer whilst holding an unlimited OOW Certificate.
Qualifications achieved:
Vocational study not leading to a recognised qualification, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies (SSA 4)
Progression opportunities:
The study package can lead to the full education award of Higher National Diploma (HND) in Nautical Science. However those students that have not already completed part 1 of the HND must be assessed separately before the full HND award can be conferred. A separate one week course for assessment of these part 1HND units can be provided.
