Counselling Skills (QCF) Level 2 This NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (QCF) (600/0728/X) qualification will introduce you to the use of counselling skills in everyday life. This could be in and out of work. Some of the approaches that underpin the use of these skills will also be taught. What will you study on this counselling skills course? Studying on our online counselling course will provide you with the values, principles and moral qualities needed to acquire and develop counselling skills. This introduction to counselling course will give you knowledge about: developing counselling skills diversity and ethics within counselling skills understanding the different approaches involved in counselling the importance of self-development You’ll learn to identify and practice a range of core counselling skills that can be used when participating in counselling interactions. Having a positive regard for the person being counselled; respecting them, showing empathy and genuineness are core counselling skills. Listening carefully, controlling your body language, (watching theirs too) asking advanced open ended questions and summarising are also key skills. As a learner, you’ll discover the importance and necessity of diversity and ethics within counselling skills. Ensuring that people feel comfortable and safe to express themselves, is an important value. Understanding the other person’s experience from their frame of reference using empathy is also essential. Learning to develop resilience of working with other people’s concerns, without being personally effected is crucial too. - Know how to establish a helping relationship
- Be able to use core counselling skills in a helping relationship
- Know how to conclude a helping interaction

- Know elements of counselling theories
- Know the significance of counselling theory
The learning outcomes for this unit are:
- Know how an ethical framework relates to the use of counselling skills
- Know what discrimination means
- Understand about anti-discriminatory practice
The learning outcomes for this unit are:
- Know how to develop self understanding
- Know personal qualities relevant to the helping roles
- Know how to meet own support needs
- Know how self reflection contributes to personal development
This is only an approximate figure and is dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper.
