Level 2 Diploma

The Creative and Media Diploma (Higher) is a project-based course which enables you to develop creativity and confidence and the ability to think, question, explore, create and communicate. You will learn about the creative and media industries, explore your own creativity, develop skills in critical thinking, problem solving and communication, and learn the practical skills to apply your ideas in different ways. The course is the equivalent of seven GCSEs and can be taken alongside GCSE English and / or Maths. It is a considerable commitment and is only suitable if you have a keen interest in creative subjects amd are likely to go on to do the Level 3 Diploma or a combination of creative, arts /media AS/A levels.

Much of your time will be spent working with others to make media products for real audiences, and your work will be showcased in cinema screenings, exhibitions and on the internet. The course involves a mixture of individual, small group and whole class activities, research, discussions and contact with creative and media professionals.

The diploma consists of four main parts.

Principal Learning: this inovlves six coursework projects and an on-screen examination, writing about one of the projects.

A project: this will relate to the work experience you do as part of the course.

Additional Learning: for this you will take a GCSE in Film Studies.

Functional Skills: this involves passing tests in English, Maths and IT.
