As a Literature student you will be encouraged to actively engage with a range of literary genres from poetry to prose and drama. You will focus upon the way in which structure, form and language shape meaning as well as draw stylistic and thematic parallels between texts. There is also a significant opportunity for original writing (at both AS & A2 level) which will emanate from your understanding of generic conventions.In the first year core text authors include Carol Ann Duffy, Seamus Heaney, David Mamet, Jane Austen, Joseph Conrad and Charles Dickens.In the second year you will compare a Shakespearean history or tragedy with a partner text by Marlowe, Tourneur or Sophocles. Poetry core text options include Geoffrey Chaucer and William Blake.

Examinations are available in January and JuneA Level English Literature is a pivotal subject which means that most subjects go well with it. Therefore, many careers are open to the English students, both male and female.
