This is a one year full time course that has been developed for people who want to learn more about land, environment and conservation and want to develop practical skills that can be used in the workplace. Suitable for: This course is ideal for you if you want to develop your skills and knowledge of land, environmental and conservation issues with a view to either progressing to a Level 2 programme or moving to employment within the sector.

What are the Course Details?
This is a one year full time course that has been developed for people who want to learn more about land, environment and conservation and want to develop practical skills that can be used in the workplace.
The course is delivered via a package of qualifications that combine theory and practical work to help you achieve your goal.
What will I Learn?
You will take a number of qualifications as part of this programme that will prepare you for either work or further study.
When you start the course you will undertake the:
ABC Level 1 Award in Practical Environmental and Conservation Skills
- Health and Safety for Environmental Studies
- Team Work in Environmental Studies
- Access and Security in the Countryside
After that you will progress to the:
ABC Level 1 Certificate in Practical Environmental and Conservation Skills
- Practical Skills for Footpath and Surfacing Work
- Practical Skills for Steps and Gates
And
BTEC Introductory Certificate and Diploma in Land and Environment
- Starting Work in the Land-based Industries
- Skills Development in the Land-based Industries
- Social Responsibility at Work
- Land and Environment Conservation
You will also take Functional Skills in Maths, English and IT.
How will I Learn?
Teaching and learning will be delivered via a combination of classroom based theory sessions and workshop time. You will spend time indoors and outdoors developing your practical skills. There will also be field trips to allow you to explore a range of environmental and conservation techniques.
How will I be Assessed?
All your qualifications will be assessed via portfolios of evidence. These can include projects and assignments set by your tutor. You will also sit tests for the Functional Skills.
What Enrichments are Available?
The college offers a wide range of enrichment opportunities from which you will choose. These will include course related and non-course related opportunities such as sports clubs, conservation, construction and much more.
Are there any Trips or Visits?
There will be a number of trips/visits during the course.
Is there any Work Experience?
There will be 'live projects' that enable you to use your practical skills for creating permanent fixtures in conjunction with your colleagues.
What can I Progress to?
You can progress to further study at Level 2 or to employment within land, environment and conservation.
Equipment Required etc. You will be required to provide your own safety footwear, trousers, t-shirt, fleece, small equipment and stationery.
