Certificate in Financial Studies (CEFS)

WHY TAKE A CERTIFICATE IN FINANCIAL STUDIES (CEFS)?
Do you want to know if Scottish bank notes really are legal tender? Do you see yourself as a private equity fund manager, investment banker or city share trader? Would you like to learn how to make informed financial decisions to help you manage finances now and in the future? It is also useful if you are interested in a career in financial services, business, insurance or banking. The Certificate is equivalent to one AS Level.

WHAT ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?
There are three units; Why Money Matters, Risk and Reward and Making Personal Financial Judgements. In these units you will explore the role that financial services can play in your life and life planning. You will learn how to manage money in different situations and how to make suitable and informed financial choices. You will also find out how to shop effectively and which financial products are suitable for you.

WHAT SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
You will develop analytical and evaluative skills that are useful across a range of other subjects.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
There are three exams, two of which are multiple choice and are taken on line and the final exam which is a written paper.

Financial Studies students take part in the Proshare Student Investor Challenge which is a national share investment competition.
