About this course
Candidates must have successfully completed the Access Animal Care course or have attained pass grades in GCSE English, maths and science. Applicants will be assessed on their numeracy and literacy levels prior to starting.

Aim of course
This course is designed to give students a practical experience of working with household pets, exotics and large animals. Assessment takes place throughout the year by way of practical skills observations and written tasks as well as by collecting a portfolio of evidence.
What will the course involve?
The course consists of eight units which are taught and assessed within the working environment of the College. Units include animal husbandry, caring for small animals, working safely in land based industries, personal effectiveness and social responsibility.
What can I do afterwards?
Following satisfactory completion of the programme at Merit or Distinction level, students may progress onto the National Certificate in Animal Care or First Diploma in Animal Care.
