Why should I study NVQ Beauty Therapy (Level 3)?

This course will introduce new skills that will expand your career potential. It will also further develop your communication skills and provide you with the skills and qualifications to progress into salon management.

What will be studied on the course?

• Advanced Electrical Facial Treatments
• Health and Safety
• Promotion
• Financial Effectiveness

When does the course start and how long does it last?
This course starts in September and is a full one year course.

What qualifications are needed to do the course?
You will need to have achieved:

• NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapy Qualification
• Level 1 or 2 key skills or equivalent

A genuine interest in Beauty Therapy is essential along with a caring, mature nature.

How will the learner be assessed?
You will be assessed continuously throughout your course in both theory and practical sessions. You are required to produce a portfolio of evidence, consisting of assignments, learning packages, written questions and evidence of practical work. Practical work is carried out on a wide range of clients in our Spa area. These treatments are assessed by your subject lecturer and recorded in your portfolio.

Externally set assessment papers will be part of your final assessment. In addition, key skills will be studied and assessed by production of a portfolio and external test. Home study will be required on an ongoing basis to support college work.

How much will the course cost?
You will be required to purchase the following:

• Salon Wear (approximately £40)
• Salon Shoes (approximately £20)
• NVQ Level 3 Kit (approximately £35)
• Textbook (£20)
• Additional training workshops (costs to be arranged and are optional for learners)

Prices are based on those for 2008-09 academic year.

What progression routes are available?
On the completion of NVQ Level 3 Beauty Therapy you could progress to:

• Working in a Health Spa or Cruise Liners
• Working in a Beauty Salon as a senior Therapist
• Working within a Department Store
• Working in a Leisure Centre
• Working in a Medical or Health Centre

**Practical work is undertaken within the College's Health Spa.
