Course aims:
This Access course is aimed at those who are interested in politics, current affairs and economic development and are considering a career in local government, the Civil Service, Trade Unions, Voluntary organisations, Charities or NGOs.
Access to HE Diploma courses provide an alternative route to Higher Education.
On the course you will study the British political system, how policies are made and decisions taken, and the wider issue of Globalisation. You will develop self confidence in your ability to learn and develop the necessary academic skills such as essay writing and research skills to prepare you for university.
The Access to HE courses has been running successfully at City College since 1991 and we have an excellent record in students progressing to university or employment.

Facilities for students:
Teaching will take place in our main campus where classrooms will be fully equipped with up to date technology. Students have borrowing rights at the local universities of Brighton and Sussex in addition to our own Learning Resource Centre.

Tutors:
The tutors are well qualified, experienced and enthusiastic and understand the needs of Access learners and provide appropriate support and guidance.
There is also support on applying to university from other organisations working together with City College such as Information Days at local universities

Assessment: Assessment will be continuous throughout the course and will involve a variety of methods such as essays, presentations, projects and examinations.

Pre-entry preparation:
There is no required set reading though you may find it useful to read about politics and current affairs in the press and media.
It will also be useful to research courses and universities prior to starting the course to help with your university application which takes place in the first term.

Progression and links:
The qualification is an accepted entrance qualification to Higher Education onto Humanities degrees such as Politics, International Relations, Law, Economics and History a well as more vocational degrees such as Journalism.
The course is suitable for those who are interested in a career in local government, the Civil Service, Trade Unions, Voluntary organisations and Charities. It also enables you to progress onto further training for other graduate careers.
