How it is Taught
AS German offers students the opportunity to consolidate and enhance the skills they learnt at GCSE. There is an emphasis on grammar and vocabulary as well as on oral skills. Students study a variety of topics such as youth culture, gender issues and healthy living.
A2 German further develops the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, but also encourages a wider discussion of issues, both orally and written. Students study topics such as immigration, environment and media as well as German cinema. There are literature and regional studies options for those who are interested. All students of German have additional weekly speaking practice with our German language assistant and all students are encouraged to participate in various trips.

2 : Listening, Reading and Writing : 2 hours 30 mins
3 : Oral : 15-20 mins
4 : Listening, Reading & Writing : 3 hours
Units 1 and 2 are usually taken at the end of the AS year, and Units 3 and 4 at the end of the second year, but due to the nature of language learning, some students prefer to take some or all AS units in January or summer of the second year.
