Description
Level 1 is an introduction to the hairdressing industry designed for hairdressing assistants and newcomers. Giving an opportunity to experience what will be expected of them when they enter a hairdressing salon.
All enrolments are subject to attending an initial assessment session.
A minimum of 80% attendance is required by the awarding body.
There is a uniform requirement, uniform order forms will be issued at the enrolment session. The requirement is a black tunic top, black trousers and black closed toe shoes.
No facial piercings are allowed including; lip, eyebrow, nose etc
Course Length
Flexible up to 16 hours per week for 1 year. Full qualification will be gained when all 6 units have been achieved, this may take more or less than a year.
What will I study?
The full NVQ award in Hairdressing at level 1 is comprised of the following mandatory group of five units to which you must add unit H2 to gain a full NVQ Certificate. Six units must be completed in all.
MANDATORY UNITS:
G1: Ensure your own actions reduce risks to Health & Safety
G2: Assist with Salon Reception Duties
G3: Contribute to the Development of Effective Working
H1: Shampoo & Condition Hair & Scalp
H5: Prepare for Hairdressing Services & Maintain Work Area
H2: Assist with Perm & Colouring Services
How will I learn?
The course will be taught using a mixture of approaches, including practical work, directed learning, independent study and tutorials, computer generated activities. Work placement is an essential requirement of this course.
How will I be assessed?
Units are continuously assessed throughout the course. Practical work is assessed through performance. Written and oral questions or assignments cover theoretical knowledge. It is necessary to build a portfolio of evidence which should include observation checklists, witness testimonies and records of practice from the workplace.
Where could it lead?
Further, more advanced, courses are available such as Hairdressing NVQ Levels 2 and 3. Progression into other aspects of the Beauty Therapy industry is also an option.
