This course will provide you with the knowledge skills and practical experience to work as a professional healthcare scientist in medical engineering. The role of a medical engineer can involve: checking equipment functions correctly and is safe for use with patients; maintenance; acceptance testing of new equipment; introduction of the equipment to service; advising on correct use; addressing patient safety issues; and safely disposing of old devices.
Medical engineers in healthcare science constantly push the boundaries of new developments, researching and innovating to ensure patients receive the best possible healthcare. This could include developing, re designing, or manipulating existing equipment to make it more effective, or looking at ways that brand new equipment can enhance or replace outdated or less desirable techniques.

Developed in response to the Department of Health's Modernising Scientific Careers programme (aimed at training expert NHS Healthcare Scientists), this course will enable you to provide the highest standard of patient centred care.

All applicants need to be interviewed, complete a satisfactory enhanced DBS check and Occupational Health check.
