Holistic Therapies

General InformationRetford College has a proven record in superior Holistic Therapies training. The college has a fully equipped Therapy salon with 15 couches and a full range of electrical equipment. Students completing the course have a high success rate in gaining employment in local salons, hotels, Health farms and a number of students have started their own businesses.

The Holistic Therapies staff are well trained and have a wide experience of the industry. A flexible programme of study has been designed which can be adapted to meet the needs of individual students.

We offer both a general course in Holistic therapy and some of the components of this course can also be taken as individual part time courses:

Level 3 Swedish Massage

A course specific to different massage techniques

Sports Massage Diploma

Our massage course which focuses on sporting applications

Stone Therapy Massage

A new and exciting course in the growing technique of stone therapy

Indian Head Massage

An ancient form of healing massage practiced as a relaxing technique.

Reflexology

The art of foot massage

*Note: The following courses will only be run if we have a large enough number of students applying due to a lack of applicants in the past.

Aims:

These courses are aimed at individuals who wish either to work as Holistic Practitioners or acquire accreditation for their existing skills. Opportunities resulting from this course can vary from working in a salon / clinic to more specialised types of work such as consultants or representatives. Opportunities are available to work in Health Spas, cruise liners and other particular areas of complementary areas.

Content:

The course is designed to cater for all levels of ability. The final level achieved will depend on the students’ ability and previous experience.

There is a pre-requisite for the Health and Safety units VR02 and VR74. It is preferable if have achieved these units prior to starting this course but it can be met through simultaneous study

Practical training takes place in the college’s salon where students are instructed in the basic skill of Health and Safety, and customer care. The salon is run as a commercial enterprise and students will gain experience of dealing with members of the public.

  • Aromatherapy – Using Blended Oils
  • Health and Safety
  • Employment Standards
  • Zone Therapy
  • Introduce Client to Holistic Therapies
  • Assist Holistic Therapist

Level 3

  • Assess client for Holistic Treatment
  • Health & Safety
  • Support Employment Standards
  • Provide Swedish body Massage
  • Aromatherapy – Assess client and Blend Oils
  • Provide Aromatherapy body Massage
  • Provide Reflexology
  • Use Interpersonal Skills with therapy clients

Videos, demonstrations, visits to shows and spas all form part of the varied learning programme. All students undertake a work placement during the course. This is an invaluable part of the course and in the past has enabled students to gain employment.

Key skills offered to include:- Information Technology, Application of Number, Communication, Working with Others and Improving Own Learning.

Entry requirements:

Holistic Therapies Level 2

There are no formal entry requirements for this course but applicants will require a basic level of numeracy and communication skills.

Holistic Therapies Level 3

A certificate in Holistic Therapies at Level 2 or equivalent must be undertaken to ensure completion of level 3 units.
