Course programme

Thank you for expressing an interest in our Intermediate Apprenticeship in Clinical Healthcare Support. There are four components that make up the Apprenticeship Program. EMPLOYMENT AND PERSONAL LEARNING SKILLS (EPLS). The EPLS aims to enable you to develop your problem solving, listening and creative thinking skills. You will also use your decision making, team working and prioritizing abilities. Your capacity to reflect on your practice, demonstrate your initiative and develop your organizational skills will also be assessed. To meet the requirements of the EPLS, you will complete 5 units worth a total of 7 credits. The successful completion of a written assignment will provide three of these credits; the remaining 4 credits are gained by completing 4 units, worth 1 credit each. These 4 units require you to prove your competency through a combination of written work and observation in the workplace by your Assessor. FUNCTIONAL SKILLS: MATHEMATICS AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE. A mandatory part of your Intermediate Apprenticeship is the successful completion of Maths and English. Your Assessor/Functional Skills Tutor will support you as you progress towards the minimum level 1 requirement. However, exemptions can apply. Numeracy and literacy are two very important aspects of your role as a Health Care Assistant. The Functional Skills program, as part of your Apprenticeship, enables you to develop numeracy and literacy skills relevant to the intermediate level of your overall qualification. DIPLOMA IN HEALTH (CLINICAL HEALTHCARE SUPPORT). This is what most people will mistakenly refer to as your NVQ. The diploma can be a stand-alone NVQ qualification, but in this instance, it is one requirement of the Apprenticeship Program you will complete. Remember that you wont be completing an NVQ; you will completing an apprenticeship; which includes a diploma. The diploma consists of two separate sections; part A and part B. Part A contains 11 mandatory units worth a total of 29 credits. You will provide evidence of your clinical skills as a healthcare worker in your place of work. You will also be introduced to the various ways of producing this evidence such as direct observation by your Assessor, written questions, professional discussions, oral questions and witness testimonies (provided by an appropriate colleague). You can also provide proof of previous knowledge attained from study/training days that you have attended; you will need to prove that you have integrated this knowledge into your work practice. The mandatory units have been selected for you and relate to your role as a healthcare worker. Communication, Person Centered Care, Safeguarding, Personal Development, Health and Safety and Duty Of Care are some of the topics covered. Each unit has its own credit value. Part B of the diploma enables you to choose units that are specific to your job role; such as Move And Position Individuals, Support Individuals To Meet Personal Care Needs, Prepare Individuals For Healthcare Activities and Obtain And Test Specimens From Individuals. Each unit also has its own credit value and a total of 21 credits are required for Part B. This section of the diploma enables you to steer your Apprenticeship towards your own needs and preferences, creating an individual program for you. The Intermediate Apprenticeship, provides you with skills and knowledge to support your colleagues in the healthcare sector and can enable you to progress your career as a healthcare worker.Once you have enrolled onto the programme you will be assigned an assessor that will visit you in the workplace regularly. They will complete assessment plans and reviews with you to keep you on target. They will support you in the collection of the required evidence needed for your qualification through different assessment methods such as; professional discussion, observations, written questions, verbal questions, witness statements and any assignments.
