Course Description
What will I learn on this course?
AS
This provides an introduction to the two main branches of economics: microeconomics (which studies the way in which markets work) and macroeconomics (which studies how economies operate). It tries to understand and answer these questions:

· EC1 An Introduction to Microeconomics and Macroeconomics

· EC2 Microeconomic and Macroeconomic Theory and Policy

A2
This will develop your understanding of both branches of the subject.

· EC2 Competitive Behaviour, Macroeconomics and Globalisation (I)

· EC3 Competitive Behaviour, Macroeconomics and

Globalisation (II)

What kind of assessments will I have to complete to get my qualification?
AS
There are two exam papers involving short answer questions, data response and two essays

A2
There are two papers. These involve short answer questions and synoptic essays.

There is no coursework or project involved in either AS or A2 Economics.

What kind of student is this course suitable for?
At first some students find studying economics quite strange. You have to be able to think logically and analytically, and to try to see how the theory works in real examples. You therefore need to be interested in what is happening in the economy and business and to follow such stories in the newspapers and television. You need to be confident with numerical concepts and with graphs.

What could I do with a qualification in this subject?
Most students taking A level Economics intend to go to University, and many take subjects unrelated to Economics. However, a significant number continue to study Economics at degree level and then to go on to careers in finance or the City. It is also possible to take degree courses from a broader range of related subjects such a management, accounts and finance.
