Makaton for Beginners Course

The Makaton Beginners course provides a very practical introduction to using the Makaton Language Programme. You will learn the signs and symbols for Stages 1-4 and Additional of the Makaton Core Vocabulary. Sessions also include hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use, discussing commonly asked questions including how Makaton differs from British Sign Language, and how to introduce Makaton in everyday situations at home or work. At the end of the Beginners course you will have the confidence and skills to begin to use Makaton in your daily interactions with children and adults. Assessment is by continuous teacher, peer and self evaluation of signing skills in a range of activities provided by the tutor. A certificate will be awarded to those students who have attended at least 80% of the course.This course will be taught and assessed by demonstration, discussion and your participation. Makaton is about developing communication between people. You will be practicing your new skills in class with your peers, as well as being given opportunities for practice between lessons.
