Exam Board: Edexcel
Additional Information: You must also be prepared to take the initiative in developing your production project in your own time. Good attendance and punctuality are an essential criteria for progression to year two where you will work in a production partnership.
COURSE OUTLINE
AS
You will be introduced to practical production skills in desktop publishing, digital imaging and image/text manipulation as well as blogging and website design. You will learn the critical terminology for the analysis of mass media texts drawn from a range of genres and you will also develop a clearer understanding of the relationship between media institutions, their products and their audiences. A stimulating opportunity to choose a new study that takes as its subject the contemporary products of popular culture, refines your awareness of the semiotics of the still and moving image and develops your confidence at self-expression. You will be expected to share ideas, work both independently and in teams and be prepared to develop your own creative initiatives.
A2
The A2 course extends your knowledge of the media through a second major production exercise, including an examined evaluation of its theoretical aspects, and an essay paper on key media debates related to issues such as globalisation, the internet, collective identity and democracy. It prepares you for higher education courses in Media or Film Studies and also provides you with both sufficient working knowledge of production technologies to enable you to pursue your own creative projects as well as evidence of your production experience through your portfolio of practical artefacts.
