This specification enables students to engage with real-life Maths, preparing for the future. This course gives you an insight into some of the diverse topics that can be studied in Mathematics. While it is a subject that is interesting to study in its own right, it is also a useful aid to other courses with a mathematical or statistical content such as Accountancy, Biology, Business Studies, Geography and Psychology.

Course programme
Module 1: Algebra
Students use straight lines, quadratics, trigonometric and exponential functions to model data.
Module 2: Data Analysis
Students use statistical techniques to analyse data and interpret the results.
Module 3: Decision Maths
Students will study the use of networks and learn how to apply algorithms to logistic type problems.
It is a more practical approach to doing maths, rather than the rigorous, algebraic, theoretical approach that is necessary for AS Maths. We tend to use spreadsheets, graphical calculators and graph drawing packages to analyse data, rather than doing algebra with a pen and paper.
This course is more suitable for many students, particularly those who like the practical challenges of using maths to solve real life problems. It involves the application of Mathematical techniques in real situations and will involve the use of ICT throughout. There is less actual content than in a traditional A-Level Mathematics course and more emphasis on problem solving and applying skills.
