This is the full two year program that covers all the aspects of Music Production. We aim to give the students as much 'hands-on' experience as possible, so that they can really develop the skills they have been taught. Year One follows the same pathway as the 90-Credit Diploma (see MUS149CF1A), but Year Two is where the students are really given the opportunity to express and develop their skills; whether they want to specialise in EDM, Recording & Mixing, or Sound Design for Film and Gaming.

Course programme

What you need to know
How will I study?

Year One follows the same path as the 90 credit (For more information see MUS149CF1A). Year Two however is very action packed with projects and events that will give you a lot of valuable experiences. The main project is creating your own CD portfolio, which showcase your abilities and you will have to plan and deliver it on time! We also look at Music and Sound for Multimedia, this is where you will be expected to write music cues and design the sound for a short film. These skills are ideal if you are wanting to get into Creative Audio Production for Film and Gaming which is a fast growing industry. You will also learn about using Technology in Performance by combining software and hardware with view to performing at our very own festival 'Chi-Fest'. As well as performing at Chi-Fest, you will also be involved in the organisation and set-up of the Festival as part of the Marketing and Promotions unit. Finally you will learn the skills in order to set-up and manage a business.
How will I be taught?

The main emphasis and delivery method is the practical hands-on approach. The reason for this is that we feel you will learn more by doing and by making mistakes! This enables you to think about your approach and how to improve yourself as an engineer/ producer. There are of course class based sessions where there will be written work involved, and where possible it is electronic submission. This is to avoid a lot of paperwork and the potential loss of work.
How will I be assessed?

The BTEC assessment criteria is based on Pass, Merit and Distinction. The majority of the assessing that takes place on the course is through practical work and observations. There is usually some written documentation or research that will need to also accompany the work that you produce.
