About this course

Four GCSEs at grade C, including English. GCSE Drama is also preferable and all candidates will need to demonstrate a strong interest in all aspects of performance. Evidence of participation in school or amateur performances is essential.

What will I be doing?
This may vary but will include options such as: First Year:
  • contemporary theatre performance
  • developing voice for the actor
  • principles of acting
  • drama improvisation
  • developing physical theatre

Second Year:
  • classical theatre performance
  • scriptwriting
  • film and TV acting
  • directing
  • musical theatre
  • theatre in education

How will I be assessed?
You will be continually assessed on practical and written work, including keeping a portfolio, or 'actor's log book'. You will also be expected to read and extend your knowledge of drama and theatre studies. There will be a final major project performance towards the end of your course and certain elements of the course are externally moderated and assessed.

Where do I go from here?
This is an applied full-time course for those of you who wish to be involved in practical drama at a higher level. You could progress onto a Higher National Diploma or a Performing Arts degree at university.
