This course is for you if:
You have achieved the AAT Advanced Certificate qualification and now wish to complete the final stage of the AAT Education and Training scheme. In doing so you will gain membership of this internationally recognised and respected Accounting body. Successful students will be equipped to work in an Accounting Technician role across a range of sectors in industry and commerce or Accounting practice.

Fee Information:
There are a small number of courses where the full fee has to be paid by everyone, these are known as Commercial Activity Programmes (previously known as FULL COST courses). Unfortunately, we do not offer any reductions or discounts irrespective of age, status or circumstances.

About the course:
This one year plus one term programme can be studied on a one day or two evenings a week basis and is made up of the following core units:
- Drafting Financial Statements (Accounting Practice, Industry & Commerce)
- Management Accounting
- Managing Accounting Systems (project)
The following two 'Option' units will also be studied:
- Personal Taxation
- Business Taxation
As part of the course you will be allocated a personal tutor, with whom you will meet on a regular basis to review your progress on the course.
A useful first point of contact is the AAT who will send you membership and syllabus details.

Please note: from 1st July 2009 the title of this course will change to 'AAT level 4 Diploma for Accounting Technicians (QCF)'

Assessment:

Managing Accounting systems is assessed by a real life project prepared in the candidate's workplace. All other Technician level modules are assessed by a 3 1/4 hour examination. Examinations are external and are held in June and December.

After the course:
Successful completion of this final stage of the AAT Education and Training Scheme together with one year's approved working experience will lead to full membership of the AAT. Students can also progress to further professional accounting qualifications. For example, AAT members receive exemption from CIMA Foundation level and the ACCA Part 1 qualification, and there is also a fastrack route to ACA (Chartered Accounting).

Alternatively, successful students can progress to a a Foundation Degree in Accounting (top-up) validated by The University of Northampton.
