Course Description:
The Level 5 Diploma is designed to meet the needs of middle managers wishing to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to develop their career in management. The course concentrates on the practical application of management theory and principles in the context of the developing middle manager, providing a foundation for continuing professional and personal development in management. Although many students will wish to commit to the full Diploma at Level 5, the course structure does enable people enrolling in September to undertake the Award or Certificate as 'stand alone' qualifications if they wish. Full details of the course structure and its delivery will be discussed at the induction.

Content
The full Level 5 Diploma course is made up of 9 units:

• 5001 Personal development as a manager and leader
• 5002 Information based decision making
• 5003 Performance management
• 5004 Resource management
• 5005 Meeting stakeholder and quality needs
• 5006 Conducting a management project
• 5008 Marketing planning
• 5010 Human resource development
• 5011 Managing recruitment and selection

Students taking the Award will study for unit 5001 only.
Students taking the Certificate will study for units 5001 and 5011

Assessment and Progression:
The majority of units on the course will be assessed via written assignments which are set and assessed by the College, but a variety of assessment methods will be used as appropriate.

Progression
On successful completion of the L5 CMI Diploma in Management and Leadership, students with the appropriate management responsibility may progress to the Level 7 CMI Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership.

The CMI programme is supported by visits to local businesses, contact with employers, conferences and other events.
