Is it right for me?
This microchipping course is designed to give training to relevant people within the industry such as pet groomers, breeders, rescue personnel, pet shop personnel and veterinary nurses. The course is run by College staff and an experienced vet who assesses the competence of each student before a certificate is awarded. Successful candidates are issued with a unique Pet Log PIN code that will allow them to commence a microchipping service.

What qualifications will I need?
Basic knowledge of dog and cat husbandry. Basic animal handling skills. Tetanus protection is recommended.

What will I be learning about?

  • Implants procedures and techniques
  • Scanners testing and reading
  • Students must bring two animals (either cats or dogs)

What materials are required?
Writing materials and protective overalls
Each student is encouraged to bring up to 3 pets for microchipping.

What is next?
Edexcel National BTEC units. Advanced Certificate in Dogs and Cats (and allied industries).

How will I be assessed?
Certificates of Competence will be awarded to those who demonstrate thorough understanding of implanting techniques, safety and hygiene procedures.
