What will the course cover and how will it be taught?
You will learn a number of simple dance tunes and rhythms on your instrument, and you will learn about playing these tunes with others in a Ceilidh band. We will "arrange" the tunes according to the instruments in the class. We may also learn the dances that fit with the tunes. (Optional!)
You will learn by:
- Demonstration from the tutor.
- Listening to the music!
- Practice & Repetition
- Playing as an "Echo" to the tutor.
- Practicing together
Many people find a small recording device aids memory and practice when they get home.
You will be encouraged to keep your own notes and a practice diary so you can see how you are getting on.
Some class performances may be recorded and played back so you can hear how the band sounds.
Depending on how the class feels about it, we may work towards an informal performance, possibly at a local event.
Are there specific requirements for joining?
You only need to possess an instrument on which you can play a few notes, and be prepared to play with others. You do not need to be able to read music.
