Description
The Level 2 NVQ in Playwork is a qualification for playworkers who predominately have a face-to-face role with children aged between 4 and 16. Eligible roles include before or after school workers, nursery and school setting workers, playworkers, and practitioners working in youth work settings.
Qualification overview
The NVQ Level 2 in Playwork provides reflection on current skills and practices with a view to improving and expanding skills. This award gives candidates an opportunity to meet and network with fellow childcare professionals. The qualification is structured to allow the candidate to work at their own pace, with their own assessor during working hours.
Timescale
3 to 18 months, dependent on the individual candidates competencies.

Core units
* Deal with accidents and emergencies
* Support the protection of children from abuse
* Contribute to the work of your team
* Contribute to positive relationships in the play setting
* Support children and young people's play
* Contribute to the health and safety of the play environment
Optional units
* Contribute to children and young people's healthy eating and personal hygiene
* Escort and supervise children outside the play setting
Awarding body
The awarding body for this qualification is Edexcel.
Assessment
Assessment is through direct observation within a play setting combined with inspection of supplementary evidence such as assignments, professional discussion, witness testimonies and work products.
Candidates must complete 6 core units in order to gain the full award. There are also 2 optional units available to candidates, although these are not compulsory or essential for the achievement of the NVQ.
