Sexual Health Awareness Training

By the end of this training course learners will be able to

• Define what is meant by the term sexual health and associated terms and words
• Explain how issues relating to age, maturity, ethnicity, culture, gender and beliefs can affect attitudes and behaviour in relation to sexual health and activity
• Explain the issues affecting people in relation to sexual health and risk of pregnancy including peer pressure, consensual relationships, readiness for sexual activity, contraception, sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy options
• Discuss the impact that social media can have on sexual health and sexual activity
• Discuss the types of people who may be best suited to provide education and awareness of sexual health
• Describe legislation designed to protect people in relation to sexual health and well being
• Explain how personal values and professional duties can impact on the provision of sexual health support and information
• Explain the social, health and educational risk factors associated with sexual health including early sexual activity or teenage pregnancy
• Explain how to support people to identify their needs and priorities in a way that is confidential, non-judgemental and sensitive to their individual situation
• Describe the codes of practice and guidance which focuses on the implications for professional conduct, confidentiality and gaining consent
• Discuss practical ways which people can be supported to make informed choices in relation to their identified needs and priorities
• Describe relevant sources of information, guidance and support and the range of health services available for people relating to sexual health
