Special Effects Make Up for Film and TV

This one-day workshop is a great introduction into the fun and creative world of Special Effects Make Up. Find out how Casualty and Holby City do it!
Special FX Make Up

Learn how to create first, second and third degree burns, vicious bruising, fat lips and dramatic cuts and breaks and if we have time we may throw in a broken finger or two! So realistic you will need plenty of choclate to stop you getting wobbly!
Discover what products to use and where to buy them. Find out how to take care of your tools.
Find out how to use your tools to get the best results.
Professional behaviour and on set etiquette are essential when working on set, find out the do's and dont's.
Health and Safety is important for an area of filmmaking, find out why and what you need to be aware of.
Look at how to research your project and discuss continuity.
Practice, practice, practice! Use your kit to work the magic of special effects.
We encourage lots of questions throughout the workshop so do not be shy.

Cicely Connelly trained as a Beauty Therapist in 1990 and has since gone on to work in TV, Film, Theatre and Fashion. Cicely has worked on EastEnders, Holby City, Casualty, Ny-Lon and Byker Grove for TV and The Beggar's Opera and Woman in Black for theatre. Cicely has also lectured for several different college's and most recently lectured at the Delamar Academy specialising in Special Effects for TV.

On Straight Curve

Provider description

Straight Curve understands that the film and television industry can be a fierce and competitive market to break into and we are here to help, encourage and inspire. Unlike other filmschools, we teach and nurture talented students that come our way and we have been involved in helping students in many short films that they have gone on to make following a Straight Curve workshop.

Straight Curve aims to help future moviemakers who need practical experience in the art of short movie making by providing high quality, varied and practical workshops, no matter how young or old it is never too soon or too late to start.

We provide a relaxed working environment in our offices just outside London and because we are not London based we are able to offer our services at highly competitive prices without compromising on the quality of our tutors. Our service goes beyond the norm, we do our best to put our students in touch with the right people, we offer advice and we network on behalf of our students to try and find them placements on future short movie projects. For those students based outside London we can offer friendly accommodation at reasonable prices giving eveyone the opportunity to join us no matter where they are based.

Workshops

Our stable of workshops are growing all of the time, we can offer scriptwriting at beginner and intermediate levels, sound recording both mono and stereo, general filmmaking for the new filmmaker, make up for special effects, camera skills, editing on final cut pro and pretty much anything you ask us to!

We also offer a personalised service with bespoke one to one workshops. Created to suite your needs, schedule and budget.

Video Workshops

Straight Curve run mobile workshops for schools, colleges or youth organizations to give the students a taster of movie making. we encourage team building, build confidence and bring new skills and creativity to the students.

Film school for Teens age 11 to 16

We have recently introduced a film school for teens to encourage kids into film. There are a lot of creative young minds out there and we show them how to use their creativity and tell a story through film. Using professional equipment our teens will make their own short film, all recorded on DVD for them to take away and keep. Available at weekends, evenings and during the school holidays lets get them away from the playstation!
