Introduction This is a work-based qualification for those who have experience working with teachers in classrooms, supporting the learning process in Primary, Secondary and Special Schools. This includes those with a general support role and those with specific responsibility for a pupil, subject or age group. Initial advice and guidance will be given.

Course Units The NVQ consists of six mandatory units (listed below) and four optional units from a choice of forty nine (not listed).

Mandatory NVQ Units:
· Help to keep children safe
· Support pupils learning activities
· Promote positive behaviour
· Develop and promote positive relationships
· Support the development and effectiveness of work teams
· Reflect on and develop practice

Assessment:
The NVQ candidate is supported by an adviser/assessor who will meet with them regularly at their workplace in order to gain evidence to meet the NVQ criteria. This evidence will include observations from the workplace and will be assessed and internally verified by qualified staff.
