This qualification will give you the specialist practical skills and theory needed to become an RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) registered veterinary nurse This course is for students NOT employed in veterinary practice Please note that this course runs every two years - the next start date is September 2017 (interviews will be completed prior to July 2017) Applicants must have completed or booked 4 weeks worth of work experience by the time of interview and have written references/evidence of booking (interviews will be take place from Easter 2017 and will be completed prior to July 2017) Applicants will be required to complete four weeks of work experience at a veterinary practice before being offered an interview References for these four weeks are to be provided to the admissions team prior to an interview being offered Applicants are also given a written project to research and create an essay to be submitted prior to an interview is offered

What will I learn?

The course combines classroom theory and practical skills, along with work placements at Canterbury College-approved training practices

How will I be assessed?

Tests take place throughout the course including three electronic exams, written assignments and written exams as well as practical assessments and exams This is in addition to working on clinical skills in work placement

Entry Requirements

One of the following: 5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including Maths, English and Science) / a science-based Level 2 Diploma at triple distinction grade & 2 GCSEs at C or Level 2 Maths and English / a science-based Level 3 Diploma at merit grade & 2 GCSEs at grade C or Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English Places are subject to a rigorous interview process as places are strictly limited to sixteen Applications must be received within the application window

Additional Information & Other Costs

This is a two-year course Students attend College two days a week, and are on unpaid clinical placement in a Canterbury College-approved training practice for the rest The clinical placement takes place throughout the year (including most College holidays) Students are placed in training practices across the county by the College and have to fund their transport costs and make their own travel arrangements There is no guarantee that placements will be close to the student's home Course fees vary according to age and previous qualifications
