The recommended entry requirements are a minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above (which would ideally include Maths and English), or equivalent GNVQ/BTEC qualifications. Entry can also be gained through achieving a relevant National Certificate, this could be the level 2 Certificate, Extended Certificate or Diploma in Horse Care, however other land- based qualifications would be considered on individual merit. Mature students would be considered on previous practical experience within an equine environment. Who is the course for?

The countryside management course is designed to give the student a wide range of practical skills and knowledge, enabling them to enter employment in the countryside sector or progress into higher level courses in further education. The course is designed around local needs and local habitats, many of which are present on the Kirkley estate.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

What will I study on the course?

You will study exciting units including: You will study principles of game management, shoot management ,vertebrate pest and predator control, ecology and conservation, environmental science, estate skills,farm habitat management, principles of plant science, specialist project study, woodland management, urban habitat management.

How is the course organised

The course runs for ____ days per week over _____ Years. Most student study six units over three days per week between September and April. It may also be possible to study the units two days per week and extend the completion date to July.

How will my progress be assessed?

Your progress will be assessed by a range of methods including practical assessments/ observations, written assignments, and identification tests. Your progress will be assessed using a combination of assignments, examinations, mid unit tests, practical examinations, presentations and oral tests.

Can I gain any extra qualifications while on the course?

You may also have the opportunity to complement your studies with other qualifications that will help you gain employment, including: Extra qualifications can be gained while at college, however there may be additional fees depending upon the type of course.

What final qualification will I get if I am successful?

CG 90-Credit Diploma in Countryside Management (QCF) Level 3

Can I receive any financial support whilst I am studying?

Many of our learners study for free with a "Fee Waiver" when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18. If you are not entitled to a "Fee Waiver" you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 23 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 you will be able to apply for a 24+ Loan that cover all of your course costs. Higher Education learners are entitled to apply for HE Loans that cover the cost of tuition. In addition, depending on your chosen course of study and individual circumstances, you may be entitled to a maintenance loan.

Please note, from September 2016, anyone over 19 years of age can apply for a loan to cover all course fees for qualifying courses.

All learners can also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.
