Course information:
A2 Level in Art and Design (Textiles)


Course summary:
This course is 4.5 hours per week.

Course content:
On the A level course with an endorsement in Textiles, students will pursue a course developing an appreciation of the relationship of form and function, an awareness of fabrics and the manipulation of textiles.
The second year of the Textiles programme consists of

2 units.

Unit 3:Personal Investigation
The candidate will develop a personal investigation based on an idea, issue, concept or theme leading to a finished piece or pieces. This will be linked with some aspect of contemporary or past practice of artists, designers or craftspeople and contain academic written material of no less than 1000 and no more than 3000 words. The candidate will be expected to extend and develop the practical elements acquired in AS Textiles.

Unit 4: Externally Set Assignment.
The eight questions for this Unit will be set by AQA as starting points for candidates work. The candidate will be required to select o

ne question to research and develop.
Candidates work should include one or more of the following areas of Textiles.
* Fashion
* Printed and/or dyed fabric and materials
* Domestic textiles and wallpaper
* Interior design
* Constructed textiles
* Textile installation

Assessment procedure:
All units are internally assessed and externally moderated.

Entry requirements:
Students will need to have successfully achieved the AS Level qualification in Textiles.

Qualifications achieved:
GCE A2 Level Art and Design awarded by AQA

Progression opportunities:
The A level in Textiles will support other A level subjects as an entry qualification into many H.E. courses. Those students specifically interested in Textiles can continue their development through a Foundation programme leading to degree course of study or a Foundation Degree course in Applied Art.
