This course is for 16-19 year olds who enjoy developing their own writing skills; and who wish to gain an insight into how texts are created with a view to being able to write for a wide variety of audiences. It is a subject that can be studied with success alongside most humanities choices but is especially strong in combination with Film Studies.

Course programme

Specifically the course is designed for those who wish to write for a career. The course presents the opportunity to study texts and change their focus so that audiences are engaged. Students may turn an article into an advertisement employing relevant language features. In addition poetry is studied in order to deepen understanding of how language works and a fiction text - "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley - is used to examine structure, character building and language.
