Sociology focuses on the ways that such factors as gender, class, ethnicity and age influence the behaviour of individuals; their experiences and their interpretations of the world around them.

About this course

After successful completion of the 2 year course you can progress into Higher Education, Health and Social Welfare, Marketing and Administration, the Media, Information Services, Teaching. Sociology is a first-class preparation for a variety of careers.

There are lots of career options open to humanities students, with many centred around the strong research and reporting skills that humanities subjects require.
Humanities courses can offer scope for careers in teaching either as subject specialists or in the special needs areas. Many students develop careers in the cultural heritage sectors such as museums or national heritage trusts such as the National Trust.

Social science students can also go on to work in politics, perhaps as a social researcher or a political adviser to MPs. Charities, social work, counselling and youth work are among some of the areas Humanity students can also work in.

You will require a minimum of 6 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English and maths grades 9-5 (formerly A*-C).
