This course is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to study drama and theatre studies in depth. The specification provides a balance between the practical and the theoretical aspects of drama, where you will read, analyse and act from a range of recognised texts. You will have the opportunity to develop your own skills through improvisation and appropriate theatrical techniques of emotional memory, utilising skills developed from practitioners including Stanislavski. At AS and A level the course involves the development of the devising of a piece of theatre utilising the work of two recognised practioners. The performance of one complete piece of text. Studying two plays including Othello and Frankenstein and critically analysing these pieces. Finally you will explore the creative possibilities of staging Sweeny Todd.

Course programme

Asessment in both AS and A level takes takes the form of practical performance and also analysing performance in written examinations. Throughout AS and A level you will take part in workshops with visiting artists and develop links with local theatre institutions including The New Vic. This is a lively and exciting course which aims to develop your knowledge, skills and personal expression through theatre.
