Course programme
Students will have to have successfully completed the following:
The course is for those who have completed the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting and wish to further develop their skills, knowledge and career in accountancy.
The AAT courses cover all aspects of accounting including financial accounting, management accounting and taxation. A detailed prospectus is available for each level and more information is available on the AAT website at
Level 4 students will be required to attend college for 3 hours per week over 2 years. In certain circumstances students may be able to complete in one year if they could attend for 2 sessions each week. This option would require an exceptionally high level of commitment and students would need to discuss their options with the course co-ordinator prior to making any firm decision.
Classes will combine conventional lectures with practical task based learning exercises. In addition to scheduled classes students are provided with work books which they are expected to study and work through at home. Students should expect to study at home for a minimum of 5 hours per week if course is taken over two years and 10 hours per week if course is taken over 1 year. Students will also be given guidance on how to use the college intranet.
Assessment at Level 4 is primarily by computer based examinations set by the AAT, coupled with some project work.
On successful completion of level 4 the student will be highly employable in many accounting functions. They will also be entitled to claim exemptions from some stages of the chartered accountant qualifications.
