What is this course about?
This programme aims to provide a higher educational experience of intrinsic worth to individual participants and to achieve outcomes at a level appropriate for the award of a Postgraduate Qualification of the University. We aim to "educate individuals as managers and business specialists and thus to improve the quality of management as a profession"
In order to achieve this we aim to provide a learning experience which will enable students to enhance their career potential, personal and professional effectiveness, performance in employment, and to assist in making a positive and sustained contribution to students personal and professional development
Study Pattern
The learning/teaching strategy adopted by the MA Accounting and Finance programme aims to develop independent and active learners, foster deep learning and understanding and enable students to develop advanced study habits and learning skills.
Students are encouraged to adopt ‘deep' rather than ‘surface' approaches to learning and therefore methods which encourage interaction; activity based learning and structure of course content with a clear motivational context. Consequently a wide range of teaching methods are employed within the taught elements of the course including lectures, seminars, presentation and discussion sessions, action learning sets and self-directed study.
What can the course lead to?
Graduates from this course are well equipped to make a success of a career in accounting, finance or general management. The course also equips them with the personal and professional skills needed for other roles in a general business environment.

Course Specific Entry Requirements
A second class honours degree is normally required. You need to demonstrate suitable numerate capability e.g. GCSE grade C or equivalent in Maths. Whilst many prospective students will hold good honours degrees or degree equivalent qualifications, we will consider prospective students on the basis of Accreditation and Prior Experiential and/or Prior Certificated Learning. This entry mode could help prospective students with professional qualifications such as those from CMI, those with professional experience and with the motivation to succeed as assessed at interview, and those from NVQ pathways. For non English as a first language speakers an IELTS score of 6.5 or above is needed. You would be accepted with an IELTS score of 6 if you take an intensive English programme in advance of the course.
