About the Course
Accountancy studies the money side of business and aims to answer questions such as: "What profit has our business made?", "What is the cash position of the business?", "How does our profit compare with last year's?". Accountancy is at the heart of every business and no business can succeed without it.
The course follows the AQA syllabus. There are two papers in year one which give a thorough grounding in double entry bookkeeping and financial accounting and also an introduction to management accounting which leads to an AS in accounting. Candidates who proceed to year two will take two papers in more advanced financial and management accounting and convert the AS into a full A level.
Accountancy may be combined with most A- Level subjects, for example Mathematics, Business Studies, or ICT.
Accountancy is a large and growing profession offering attractive career prospects in accountants' offices, industry and commerce and central and local government. In addition to the accountancy profession, A level accounting is useful for careers such as banking, finance, business, management, law, and running your own business as well as being suitable for admission to a large number of university courses.
