All students can add to their main programme of study by taking part in a wide range of clubs, groups, societies and courses. Not only are the activities fun, they also develop skills and provide new and fulfilling experiences, as well as enhancing applications to Higher Education and employment.
What is the course about?
AS Level - Year 1
The AS modules introduce accounting concepts and principles and applies them to various accounting situations.
Unit 1 (F011) Accounting Principles
Students will learn about the double-entry system of book-keeping, accounting concepts and conventions, changing asset values, final accounts.
Unit 2 (F012) Accounting Application
Students will apply the concepts from Unit 1 and will correct errors, produce control accounts and deal with incomplete records.
If students wish to progress to the A2 Level, they must obtain a grade D or above at AS Level.
A2 Level - Year 2
The A2 units provide a greater depth of knowledge.
Unit 3 (F013) Company Accounts and Interpretation
Students will learn to prepare final accounts for limited companies. They will study the sources of finance including the issue of shares. They will analyse and interpret accounts and look at the regulatory framework.
Unit 4 (F014) Management Accounting
Students will study costing principles and systems. They will also learn investment appraisal methods.
Study Skills
As part of Stanmore College Sixth Form's excellent support network, Literacy and Numeracy support is available to any student enrolled on a course, depending on the student's individual needs (determined during Induction by an assessment). Support is provided through the Skills for Life Study Plus Programme. Students can attend either one-to-one or group sessions in a friendly, stimulating and supportive environment.

AS Level: 2 written papers
A2 Level: 2 written papers.
There is no assessed project work in this course. The papers will all be sat in a single session.
