Course programme
Accounting and business finance is a dynamic area underpinning organisational activities and success, while management covers a wide variety of subject areas from the study of individual psychological processes through to the role of globalisation in shaping whole economies. Specialising in accounting and finance emphasises the responsibility and role of this important functional area in the management field. Within our degree, students participate in an academically challenging and vocationally relevant programme of study leading to an excellent basis for entering the accounting profession, other workforce or for further academic study. We have strong links with both the Accounting professional bodies and international Accounting firms. We expect a lot of our students because we recognise that they have a lot to give.
This programme combines the three closely related disciplines of accounting, business finance and management. It teaches accounting and business finance within an organisational context with a focus on corporate financial decision making and corporate governance. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of the preparation of accounts and financial techniques, their interpretation and use in a variety of contexts to an advanced level. The programme is underpinned by rigorous research methods drawn from both quantitative and qualitative traditions in social science, enabling students to develop a critical understanding of corporate financial practices and policies and their role in modern society.
The degree can be studied as a three year degree programme or with an additional year in industry.
The degree is professionally accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). The professional accreditation enables those who have graduated from the degree to claim exemption from the following Professional Stage papers of the ACA syllabus:
- Business and Finance
- Management Information
- Principles of Taxation
- Business Strategy
