Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for people who are new to etching and photo-etching. You will be introduced to our basic studies programme which has no time limit and allows you to work to a point of confidence in the ordering of processes, development of their work and safe working practices. The course is totally personilised for each person, hence there are no set group projects. All are invited to expand their ideas and interests, working to their strengths to develop further skills.

What previous knowledge/experience are required?
No formal qualifications needed.

What is the level of the course?
The course is open to all levels.

What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
To gain essential skills and techniques in etching and photo-etching and produce prints using traditional as well as photo-etching techniques. To become aware of etching studio practice and help you gain confidence to express ideas through print, also to participate in at least two student exhibitions. Learning outcomes; You will be able to understand etching techniques, skills and areas of study currently available as the teaching programme. It is not a course requirement to work through the whole programme. The course is flexible and individually structured. You may wish to study all areas or choose to add skills as own project and work develops and to refine skills to professional quality.

What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
The course is taught through tutor demonstrations and one to one tuition with the tutor. All new students are shown course documentation which outlines student progression through a basic studies programme. It is stressed that the course does not require evidence of work in as many areas as possible. Progression is entirely based on the individual learners' programme. This gives ample time for certain processes and techniques to be thoroughly comprehended. The tutor will explain processes and give practical demonstrations and individual assistance throughout the course.

How will we assess your progress on the course?
Continuous feedback from you tutor, appraisal of finished pieces.

What type of qualification will passing this course give me?
Non accredited course aimed at expanding printmaking and the creative process.

What extra study/practice do we expect you to do outside the class?
Research for next lesson and projects.

What can I do after completing this course?
You could use your printmaking portfolio for entry to courses from Foundation to post-Graduate level at art school or re-enrol with us to develop your skills even further.

Are there any other costs? (e.g. materials, equipment or books I need to buy before or during the course)
Basic materials are supplied by the college, but a notebook and pencil would be useful in keeping a record.
