What can this course offer me?
An opportunity to gain a single passing grade at GCSE level. This is an essential requirement if you intend to apply for courses in nursing, midwifery or primary school teaching. A grade B or above may allow progression to any AS science course offered at the college.
What will I learn?
At KGV we offer ADDITIONAL SCIENCE GCSE. You should only apply for this course if you think that you are unlikely to gain a C or above in your current GCSE science programme.
You will receive 6 lessons each week for one year.
The course consists of 3 units (one each for Biology, Chemistry and Physics) which are examined by 3 separate 45 minute papers in June. In addition there is a centre-assessed unit based on normal class practical work. It is not possible for you to re-enter coursework from your previous school.
Each of the 4 units is worth 25% of the final marks. Your effort and commitment throughout the year will determine whether you are entered for the higher level or the foundation level in June.
What Makes a good Additional Science student?
There are no specific entry requirements but we strongly recommend that any student who does not already have a C or better in a GCSE Science subject joins this course.

Future Opportunities
Students without a GCSE Grade C can be seriously disappointed when it comes to applying for advanced courses or careers. So, getting a C or better in GCSE Science can open up an almost limitless range of possibilities.
